St. Patrick’s Church was built in 1837 and is one of only two recent identifying landmarks that remain on Lafayette Square, while the other is the Gallier Building. The gothic-style church was designed in 1840 by Irish immigrants to match the French St. Louis Cathedral on Jackson Square. St. Patrick’s Church sits in the center of the business district and is one of the gems that remain from the early days of the 19th century when the town started to expand beyond the limits of the initial settlement of Bienville. St. Patrick’s Church designs of wood plaster are sights to behold, and the great fan that vaults over the altar is a rare show of beautiful stained glass. They also give Benediction on the third Sunday of each month after the Latin Mass at 9:15am. Here, a parking facility also available.
