Detailed Information

Pioneers Park Nature Center is a 668-acre tallgrass meadow, woodland, wetland, and stream forest. It is also an outdoor education center and a sanctuary for wildlife in the Lincoln area. Eight miles of hiking trails pass through diverse environments and take visitors past unreleasable displays of raptors, as well as bison, elk, and white-tailed deer. The two interpretive buildings house hands-on and small animal exhibits. The Edna Shield’s Natural Play Area for Children provides a place for kids to dig, build and climb. It is an excellent place for people of any age to visit during all seasons. Visitors can walk the trails across their prairie, visit the animals on show, listen to the birds in their bird garden and relax on one of the benches. Pioneers Park affords a free nature trail.
