Bayou Sauvage National Wildlife Refuge is one of the most historically fascinating attractions in the region, is unknown and seldom visited, although it covers more than 24,000 acres. Tens of thousands of people visit the Bayou Sauvage National Wildlife Refuge. As far as the eye can see, Bayou Sauvage provides streets of fresh and brackish (a mixture of new and saltwater) marshes and coastal hardwood forests. Ridge Trail includes an interpretive boardwalk path, restrooms, and a picnic pavilion, 1/2 mile long. A 2/3 mile long waterfront interpretive loop trail offers views of the bottomland hardwood forest and marsh ecosystems. The nature trails are well maintained, and the plants and trees are labeled. Bayou Sauvage National Wildlife Refuge has parking facilities for the visitors.
